DEPARTMENT: Programs
REPORTS TO: TOSA, Lead YDS & Assistant Director of Program Services
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Implement programs and activities provided by HEARTS Supervisor. Must monitor and evaluate situations using good judgment and behavior management techniques. Create and maintain a safe environment for members and adults within the program space.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Prepare Youth for Success
- Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:
- Promote and stimulate program participation with members.
- Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
- Provide homework help
Program Implementation
- Effectively implement and administer services and activities for students.
- Ensure the safety of students is considered when implementing programs and activities.
- Ensure program space/area is organized and cleaned during and after use.
Supervision of Youth
- Provide guidance, affirm positive behavior and act as a role model and mentor to youth.
- Provide a safe environment through active supervision, setting clear expectations and maintaining clean program areas.
- Never leave members unsupervised and implement and follow School behavioral guidelines.
Professionalism
- Ensure a productive work environment by participating in staff meetings as required by supervisor or senior staff.
- Maintain a good reputation and moral conduct outside of work, in the community and on social media networks.
- Adhere to organizational policies and procedures as described in the organization’s Employee Handbook, Staff Code of Ethics, and elsewhere.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. May participate in special programs and/or events.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.
External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Must pass the School District Instructional Aide Test or have a Bachelor's Degree.
- Experience working with children (volunteer work counts).
- Able to review and implement lesson plans provided by the District.
- Knowledge of youth development stages.
- Early Childhood education credits are plus.
- Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
- Ability to deal with the general public.
- Ability to plan and implement quality activities for youth.
- Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Interpersonal skill development and maintenance.
- Valid State Driver's License or California ID card.
- Must clear TB, Drug Screen and Fingerprint check.
- CPR & First Aid Certifications - required within 6 months of hire date.

- Contribute to environment of safety through the learning and implementation and monitoring of all safety-related best practices, policies, and procedures.
- Promote accountability to safety through consistent observation, adherence to all safety rules and practices and proactive communication among members, parents, peers, and leadership.
- Obtain and maintain Mandated Reporter training and complete annual Child Abuse Prevention training.
- Complete training and participate in all Emergency Preparedness protocols including drills and communication practices.
